Neon Lab, UW-Madison Lecturer
As the owner/operator of Neon Lab, a Madison-based neon sign shop, Thomas faces design challenges on a daily basis. He works with his clients to design and build a neon sign that both feels contemporary and timeless. Every step is handled with care in this one-person shop (that would be Thomas) from concept to design to blowing the glass to assembling the sign, and ultimately installing the work.
Thomas has been working with neon for 18 years, learning the trade in Boulder, Colorado as a four year apprentice. Prior to working with glass, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, studying sculpture and fine art.
Currently Thomas is the instructor of Neon: Light as Sculpture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as keeping Madison alive with neon running his small shop.
